The foundation of your home is structurally significant. It provides the rest of the house the support it needs so it can stand tall and strong for years to come. But when your home’s foundation was not installed properly, or if it starts to fail because of unstable soil, chaos can ensue.
Whatever the cause of your failing foundation, you need to have it examined as soon as you see any possible signs. This way, you can avoid any further damage and expenses. The first step you need to take is to have a professional accurately diagnose the problems through a series of tests and calculations. They will then put together an assessment on what can be done about it.
For this week’s featured project, an Allen homeowner had consulted with many of foundation repair contractors. Let’s see why he chose us.
One of Our Trickiest Foundation Inspections in Allen, Texas
A homeowner in Allen, Texas noticed cracks and separations popping up around the exterior and interior of their home.
The damage caused by foundation problems
He were worried that their house had foundation issues, so he started reaching out to different contractors in the area. We were one of the contractors he contacted.
Our team came over to perform the inspection that involved documenting the damage and taking elevation readings across the slab. We determined that the front of the house was settling relatively more than the back of the house. This settling had caused the front walls to lean forward, which in turn opened the cracks and separations. We discovered this through our inspection where we document the damage and take elevation readings across the slab.
The problem area
This inspection was particularly tricky as the identified problem area was the highest section of the house. This might be extremely uncommon, but we were able to extrapolate data that determined the front of their house was actually even higher before due to it being built that way. As time passed, it had dropped down (but still higher than the rest of the house) and caused the damage the homeowner had noticed.
The other contractors that looked at it were all super confused. We were the only ones who were able to identify this odd occurrence and therefore got the job!
Resolving the Failing Foundation with Our PT2 System
Working on the installation
We installed 12 of our cost-effective PT2 piers in the problem area. The 12 concrete pressed piers were spanned across the front of the house at intervals no longer than six to eight feet. These were reinforced with steel rebars so they could not be displaced. The team pushed it down to the restrictive layer of clay beneath the foundation so the house would be lifted and the foundation would be more stable.
The results
Despite the challenges, the project took our team of specialists less than one day to complete with just a team of five workers and our crew chief. The customer had even asked us to remove some of the larger bushes in his yard as he was getting ready to redo his landscaping. We gladly obliged as we’re always ready to go above and beyond to help our clients!
Here’s what he has to say about our work.
