There will come a point in our lives when we need to remodel something in our home. Whether it be because of a lifestyle change or unexpected damage, any major remodel will need time and effort, from designing the remodel to selecting the materials. And don’t forget the actual construction! You carefully plan even the smallest details out. But sometimes, the unexpected happens. For this week’s featured client, it was the discovery of possible foundation problems.
Discovering Foundation Issues During a Remodel
A Dallas homeowner had recently purchased their home. They were just in the middle of remodeling it to transform it into the dream home they always wanted, until they noticed something they definitely did not expect. It was a crack in a new tile they had just installed in their master bathroom!
A lot of things can cause tile cracks, but in a lot of cases, they can be signs of foundation problems. If cracks like the ones our client experienced seem to show up for no reason at all, it’s always best to consult with a foundation repair expert. Luckily, they called us. Our team went in and took a look to determine how bad it was and if something needed to be done.
During our thorough inspection, we discovered other signs of possible foundation issues.

Signs of Foundation Issues
We concluded that there weren’t any immediate structural movements. But there was movement present that could have caused the crack, which is a fairly common concern in Dallas considering how expansive the clay soil under foundations is. Whenever the soil moves, the foundation will shift, resulting in tile cracks. There was also a large tree at the corner of their property close to their home, which could have been affecting the integrity of the soil.
Our client did not need any foundation work right away, but they decided it was better to be on the safe side. The homeowners wanted to get work done before anything worse could happen in the future. Thus, our team put together a plan of piers while our client elected to get the tree we mentioned earlier removed.
Repairing a Foundation With PT2 System Piers in Dallas
For this project, we went with our popular PT2 system.

We pushed ten steel rebar reinforced concrete pilings deep into the soil to stabilize their home and resolve any foundation issues.

As we were installing the piers, we encountered a spot with a bunch of pool equipment—these were right on the spot where one pier was supposed to go! So we wouldn’t have to remove the equipment, we dug a five-foot tunnel under the house instead. Quick thinking on our team’s side!

The entire project was successfully completed in just one day. The homeowner was able to continue their home remodeling quickly without much disruption. And now, they can be confident that they won’t be experiencing foundation problems any time soon again.
