Did you know that the foundation of your home is subjected to a lot of environmental stress? Too much or too little moisture, contracting and expanding soil—these are just a few of many factors that can threaten the integrity of your foundation. And as time passes, the stress can be too much. The very structure that supports everything else in your home starts to settle, shift, or even crack. Sounds like a lot of bad news!
To prevent your home from literally collapsing, you need to detect any signs of a failing foundation as soon as possible. Some of the signs of a foundation that is compromised include crumbling concrete, popping expansion joints, hairline fractures, buckling walls and sloping floors. Learning to spot these early will allow you to contact experts like our team at PermaTech Foundation Repair so we can address any issues right away.
Let’s see what solution we used to help this week’s featured client resolve their foundation problems.
Improving Foundation Strength and Preventing Future Foundation Problems in Forney
A Forney homeowner hady noticed a large separation in the expansion joint on the side of their house.

We conducted a thorough inspection by recording the damage and taking elevation measurements. Taking a closer look, we saw other signs that showed their foundation was compromised.

Through this, we were able to determine that all the damage and measurements pointed and sloped towards an area in front of their garage where there was a large tree and crape myrtle. These were removing too much moisture from the soil below, causing the foundation to settle more so than the house it was connected to.
To address the current problem as well as prevent bigger, more expensive damage in the future, our team installed our innovative PT2 System. We installed 9 PT2 piers around the affected perimeter of the garage.

Our crew also installed a 20-foot long root barrier in between the large tree and the garage to prevent the roots from negatively affecting their foundation in the future.

Both the root barrier and PT2 system only took us one full day to complete. Aside from lifting the house to its proper level, the expansion joint closed up noticeably.
