It’s been mentioned time and time again in our blog posts how trees can affect the foundation of your homes. But remember this: trees are not the enemy. They cannot directly damage your foundations, as their roots are not strong enough to crack the concrete. These roots will often grow laterally with your home’s foundation instead.
BUT trees can damage your foundation indirectly, especially if they are planted way too close to your home. Their roots will suck out moisture from the soil, which can cause it to shrink. If the affected soil is beneath your home, your foundation will eventually settle. And if the soil gets wet again, it can heave and further affect the foundation.

From Roof Replacements to Foundation Repair in Frisco TX
A Frisco homeowner was in the process of having their roof replaced. The roofing company that was handling the job noticed the house was showing some of the signs of foundation problems, including expansion joint separations, tile cracks, and sheetrock cracks.
The contractors said that if they do have a foundation problem, the foundation needs to be repaired before the roof is replaced or else it would mess up their new roof. This is 100% correct, as we previously discussed in, another blog post. Foundation repair should always be done first, as the foundation moves everything attached to it.
The roofers referred the homeowner to us, who reached out to the team for help. After our inspection, we determined that the tree close to the affected corner of the house was the main culprit.
We took a two-pronged approach to address the issue. The team installed 7 PT2 piers along with a root barrier around the perimeter of the front left corner of the house. These piers will lift and stabilize the house, while the root barrier will keep the tree roots from encroaching upon the soil close to the foundation of the home.

One pier had to be installed through the driveway under the garage, but we made sure to do a great job square-cutting and reinforcing the patch and reinforcing the patch. This means the patch won’t be too noticeable and it would be strong enough to handle both foot and vehicle traffic.
