McKinney Homeowner Worried About Too Much Water Damaging Her Garden and Porch
Our client is an avid gardener who loves beautifying her home. She recently had a new front porch extension installed. Too much water had started to pool next to her house whenever it rained, which was ruining her new plants. She was also worried that it would ruin the concrete in her porch extension as well.
It was right for her to be anxious about all that water, as it is one of the biggest threats to the structural integrity of any home. Frequent exposure to water can undermine the soil supporting your house’s foundation. It can even cause the concrete to deteriorate!
She had reached out to another company to install drains around her house, hoping that this would solve all her water problems. They connected the gutter downspouts to the corrugated discharge lines, and had them pop up in the middle of the yard. Of course, this ended up not working because the corrugated lines don’t allow water to move very quickly. Most importantly, the middle of the yard was much higher than the house, so how would the water go uphill?
Properly Installing a New Drainage System to Solve All Excess Water Problems
The homeowner pointed out that the drainage wasn’t working at all. Instead of resolving the errors they had made, the other company went AWOL. Her neighbor, who was one of our previous drainage clients, suggested that she give us a call. Our expert team was able to identify the real problem immediately, and suggested the best solution. The solution we proposed made sense to her, so she decided to hire us.
Our team switched the old, corrugated pipes to smooth wall pipes so that the flow of water would be much quicker.
We also ran the line all the way to the lowest point of the front corner of her property at the street. Since this corner is much lower than the spot where the water kept pooling up, the water wouldn’t have to fight gravity just to get to it.
We then installed a hole in the curb so water would directly discharge to the street. Doing so will prevent clogging in the future, allowing the drain to last much longer.
The changes we made allowed the water to flow away from her home, so none of the most important structures on her property (whether it’s her flowers or her foundation) would get damaged.
