Plants and trees do a great job of providing us shade and fresh air. They’re also great for the environment. Does your home happen to have a couple of trees around nearby? While they may be pleasing to look at, did you know that the roots of trees pose a potential threat and may cause damage to your home’s foundation?
As time passes, trees grow taller and its roots expand further into the soil. Because trees leech moisture from the soil to help them grow, they can dry out the soil beneath your home which in turn causes foundation movement. You might not see the soil moving, but the effects can be visibly seen in your house.
You might be noticing small cracks, settling in your concrete, or damaged water pipes. While these are the basic issues that our customers often call about, there is nothing a damaged foundation has that we can’t fix. Read on to learn more about how we fix this problem!
Coppell Homeowner Needs Root Barrier Services
In our client’s case, we were called to check on a previous project they had us install. We had already repaired a previous foundation issue years ago but the corner of their garage had started to move again, so they needed our help once more.
Since we had worked on their home’s foundation before, this was a warranty. We had to open a hole up near their home to adjust their previous piers. Upon closer inspection, we noticed a large number of roots wrapped around it.
It turns out that the roots from a nearby tree had caused damage to their previously repaired foundation! Other companies would void the warranty because something else caused the pier to fail, but that’s not how our team at PermaTech Foundation Repair rolls.
Our warranty still covered the repairs, so we gave our client the option to either remove the crape myrtle or install a root barrier to prevent the roots from damaging their foundation again. The customer chose to have the root barrier installed that same day.
We installed a 30 inch deep, 30 millimeter thick HDPE material root barrier. The material used was buried deep enough that surface roots can’t go below it. It also happens to be strong and flexible enough that the roots will no longer be able to penetrate it and cause damage to their foundation and pipes. This will give the homeowner peace of mind for many years to come even if new roots start making their way deep below.
Our crew was able to successfully adjust the pier and protect it from future problems caused by that tree. And despite having only taken a few hours to finish this project, we guarantee the quality of the output. The client will no longer have foundation issues and the roots will no longer damage his home. It was really helpful that the warranty enabled him to fortify his foundations while saving money!
